Forum: opensource_movies Subject: How to promote my "invisible" film on Archive.org?

Hi,

I recently uploaded a film I made and was wondering what I could do to promote it more here on Archive.org?

It's been fairly popular on torrent sites, getting close to 10,000 downloads, but here it's pretty hidden and not being seen...

What can I do to get it on a staff list, or promoted to a spotlight item?

My page in question:

Thanks in advance!

-Harry

How do you go about seeing this film? It can't be viewed on the site, the regular files (mpeg 2 or 4.512 mp4, cinepack, etc) aren't there.

I think he expects us to download the ISO and burn a DVD in order to see his film.

Harry, if you want views, you need to make the film available in an easy to download/easy to view file format.

Try meeting your potential audience halfway if you want them to see what you've made.

Just a FYI from a guy who's been making indie films for 40 years...

Sound reasoning, Harry from a sound man. If you want us to see it, make it acessable. If we like it then we will download it to make a DVD and not the other way around.

Haha, well I don't feel very sound (of body, anyway), but thanks. I'd like to see his film, but there should be an easier way to do it.

I went to film school down the coast from San Francisco in the '70s, and it sure was a nice place to be in those days. Being a kid from Pittsburgh, SF sure was an eye-opener. Never saw so many hippie chicks in hot pants in my life, lol.

You are more than welcome cosmico. Besides you and the director of my film of "Secret", I don't know any other director personally.

I hesitate to call myself a director, I'm just a no-budget garage filmmaker. And I don't even have a garage anymore, so there went my studio. But thanks.

I thought it was interesting that Harry mentions he's making films in San Francisco. I shot so much film there around 1970 or so, but it's all gone now.
